Week 4: Bokeh

When we were going through topics determining what to shoot, Erica had the topic Bokeh, I liked the idea, so it stuck.  I wanted my image to remain simple yet whimsical.  My goal was to just make it soft to the eyes, with kind of a day dreaming haze over it.  There aren't many words to describe it, so I'm just gonna let the image speak for itself.

I snapped this photo playing around outside with my camera while the kiddos enjoyed an afterschool playdate.  I had a few to choose from but at the end of the day I really fell in love with this particular image.  I like it because it evokes the feeling of an abstract painting.

Thanks for following along. :)

Week 3: Creature

I am not surrounded by creatures everyday, which I consider myself fortunate, but when it comes to this weeks topic it is unfortunate.  I wish I would have had more time, because I think it could have been a lot more fun of a topic to shoot.  Originally I wanted to go find little creatures, I had insects in mind, but time feel short.  So Harley became my plan B.  She was incorporative with me at first but after awhile she got bored with me and chose to share her expressions with my by yawning.  Who knew a dogs yawn could be so appealing? or is it?

I feel the same way as Lynette!  Originally, when I first started thinking of this topic, I thought for sure I would be able to find some sort of insect to photograph (especially as mild as the weather had been before this week).  The most I had found, and contemplated, was a dead spider in a web outside~ I wasn't exactly excited about the prospect of photographing a dead spider and thought maybe I would catch a break and the warm sunshiney weather would return.  A cardinal, a flock of geese, something!  At the end of the day, I decided on one of the creatures that live with us, our sweet dog, Buddy.  He was very cooperative.  I actually lit him with my computer monitor which was interesting enough...or at least he thought so as he watched me with those penetrating eyes.  Makes me wonder what he thinks about our day to day life.  That little snout of his often prods my hand for quick scratches behind the ears and his favorite hangout is whatever room I happen to be in at the time.

Thanks for following along.  See you next week. :)

Week 2: Technology

Week 2: Technology

I actually didn't think of this concept for Technology when we were originally coming up with topics for this project.  When Technology made the list, I will admit, I was a smidge nervous.  I really had no idea of how I wanted to portray it within an image (admittedly, I wasn't exactly inspired by it as a subject to photograph).  So, when Lynette texted me the topic for this week, I mentally groaned. (true story!) .... but then after thinking about it a bit I did get excited.  I have a wonderful collection and assortment of cameras.  Some work, some don't.  Some are very old and antiquated and some are nice and new.  It was fun to use the cameras for this project and incorporate my camera phone to show Technology.

See you next week!

I chose Technology, because I knew it would be a challenging topic for me to photograph.  For most of the week I kept questioning myself on what I was going to photograph, every time I would brainstorm I kept returning to the idea of wires.  So I just went with it.  We as humans, are all programmed by our nervous system, and without it we would not be able to function.  We are all uniquely individually "wired", and that is precisely what I wanted to present to you.  Just as much as we rely on our nervous system to function we also seem to have to rely on technology just as much.  Where would we be today without it?  This I can not answer, nor even begin to imagine.

Til next time :)

Week 1: Upside Down

Week 1: Upside Down.

I actually found this topic a little more challenging than I had expected.  I had a few different ideas that I discarded along the way.  I spent yesterday at the park with my youngest watching her hang upside down from the monkey bars doing various tricks ~ including 'the koala'.  Although we had a ball together and I got some fabulous photos of her I just wasn't feeling any of them for this project.  Then, this morning, I was enjoying a cup of coffee looking out my front door and that is when I knew I had to photograph our gnome that hangs upside down from our birch tree.  He was a silly gift to my husband from my mom.  (Steve insists on collecting gnomes and my mom insists on helping him along with his collection; they are in cahoots together just to tease me.)

Have a super week.  Thanks for following along and I can't wait to share next week's image with you.

First, above all things, I would like to apologize to our viewers for being a day late on my post.  Yesterday was a whirlwind of events which were topped off by the unexpected failure of not being able to long onto the internet.  Today is a new day, and after waiting (not so patiently), the technician finally came to save the day.  Hallelujah!  I would have to agree with Erica, that this topic proved to be a little more challenging than what we had imagined.  After much brainstorming and several attempts, "upside down" got the best of me.  One could spend hours flipping the image in their mind, to what they may believe to be right side up.  But what is right side up?  If the topic is upside down, wouldn't the resulting image be right side up to begin with?

Thanks for checking in and can't wait until next weeks post!

Welcome to I between two I

Welcome to the blog! This is just a little informational post.  We'd like to share how we met,  how the idea came about and how this blog will work.  We'll keep it short and sweet.

Erica and Lynette met while attending school at Metro Community College in Elkhorn, NE.  They happened to sign up for the same summer class, Intermediate Black and White Film and became fast friends.  Lynette and Erica took several classes together and often shared opinions, ideas and creative suggestions.  They completed a few different photography projects together while in school and have collaborated on personal projects.

Lynette and Erica have very different styles yet find enjoyment in each other's work.  Their creative approach on shared subjects varies to such an extent that they often talked about how interesting it would be to explore and document their different views on shared topics.  Hence, the blog project, I between two I 's was born.

Each week, Erica and Lynette will share with the viewer their art and perspective of a predetermined subject.  They will explore 52 random photographic assignments for all of 2012 and share their images (and maybe a few words).  Every Thursday a new image will be posted and the next week's topic will be announced.

We hope you enjoy following along with us!  Coming up this week:  Week 1 - Upside Down
